Windows Mobile Getting Started Disc Incompatible with Adobe Flash Player 9

In some specific cases, the Getting Started Disc that ships with Windows Mobile powered devices will not function properly with the Adobe Flash Player 9. This document will describe this issue and how to install the applications contained on the disc, from either the Getting Started Disc or the Web.

The Getting Started Disc installs synchronization software that allows Windows Mobile powered devices to synchronize data with a desktop computer. The Getting Started Disc also contains the Windows Mobile Device Handbook, applications, and information about your Windows Mobile powered device.

Issue:

The installation wizard of the Getting Started Disc requires Adobe Flash Player, but is unable to determine if the correct version is installed and thus may not function correctly. You may be asked to install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player even if it is already installed.

To workaround this issue, the applications provided with your Windows Mobile powered device can be installed directly from the Getting Started Disc or from the Web by following the instructions below.

Install from the Web

Outlook version 2003 or later is required to synchronize data with Windows Mobile 6 and the PC. If you do not currently have Outlook installed, or you would like to experience Microsoft Office System 2007, follow the instructions in the Experience the 2007 Microsoft Office System section.

Synchronizing Your Windows Mobile Powered Device with your PC Using ActiveSync and Windows Mobile Device Center

Synchronizing your mobile device with your PC is a faster, easier way to connect your desktop or tablet PC and your Windows Mobile powered device to transfer information, settings, and files. Synchronization is handled with different applications for Windows Vista and Windows XP or earlier, so please check which operating system your PC is running and choose the appropriate option listed below.

PCs Running Windows Vista

If your PC is running Windows Vista, your synchronization settings will be managed through the Windows Mobile Device Center. ActiveSync cannot be installed on Windows Vista PCs.

PCs Running Windows XP or earlier

If your PC is running Window XP, or earlier, your synchronization settings will be managed through Microsoft ActiveSync.

Install directly from the Getting Started Disc

Install ActiveSync 4.5
  • From the Start Menu in Windows select “Computer”
  • Right click on the CD/DVD drive for the GSD labeled “OFFICE_10” and select “Explore”
  • Open “ActiveSync” folder
  • Open the folder corresponding to the language version you would like to install
  • Double-click on the setup icon (Setup.msi)
Install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
  • Connect device
  • From the Start Menu in Windows select “Computer”
  • Right click on the CD/DVD drive for the GSD labeled “OFFICE_10” and select “Explore”
  • Open WMDC folder
  • Double-click on “drvupdate-x86” for 32 bit Vista, or
    Double-click on “drvupdate-amd64” for 64 bit Vista
Install Outlook 2007 (trial version)
  • From the Start Menu in Windows select “Computer”
  • Right click on the CD/DVD drive for the GSD labeled “OFFICE_10” and select “Explore”
  • Open “Outlook” folder
  • Open the folder corresponding to the language version you would like to install
  • Double-click on the Outlook icon (Outlook.exe)
Help files, the Device Handbook and information about your device and related accessories may be found in the OEM folder.

OEM provided applications may be installed from the “Additional Applications” folder.
