International Technology Consultancy Saves Time and Energy with New Operating System
Capgemini is a leader in consulting, technology, outsourcing, and professional services. The company has become a member of the Microsoft® Technology Adoption Programme (TAP) to ensure it is always at the forefront of new technologies. They expect Windows Vista—launched initially as a pilot project to 200 technical service employees and 300 outsourcing employees—to create numerous benefits group-wide, including significant time savings as a result of the comprehensive search functionality. Capgemini is confident that, once implemented across its U.K. operations, Windows Vista will make the group more competitive, while improved remote access features will benefit employees’ work/life balance.
Capgemini—a leader in consulting, technology, outsourcing, and professional services—has about 60,000 employees in North America, Northern Europe, Asia Pacific, and Central and Southern Europe. The company has become a member of the Microsoft® Technology Adoption Programme (TAP) to ensure it is always at the forefront of new technologies.
Inclusion in the TAP led Capgemini to become an early adopter of Windows Vista™, a solution it deemed highly applicable to its goals of responsiveness, innovation, and collaboration. Capgemini expects Windows Vista—launched initially as a pilot project to 200 technical service employees and 300 outsourcing employees—to create numerous benefits group-wide, including significant time savings as a result of the comprehensive search functionality.
The addition of the unified messaging capability and tools such as instant messenger have had a significant affect on the time it takes for workers to achieve quick answers and make decisions. Mark Walker, Global Infrastructure Product Director at Capgemini, says: “We estimate e-mail has been reduced by around 25 per cent as a result of collaboration and unified messaging tools.” And James Legg, Global Infrastructure Product Manager, Capgemini, says: “As a pilot user, I can tell you the combination of the rich views provided by Windows® Aero® and the pervasive search functionality gives me hours of my week back and makes me far more responsive to requests for information.”
In addition, the power management features of Windows Vista will help the group achieve its stated goals in corporate and social responsibility. Legg says: “We anticipate energy savings of approximately £120,000 (U.S.$234,300) a year from enhanced power management features when Windows Vista is fully rolled out across the United Kingdom.”
Capgemini is confident that, once implemented across its U.K. operations, Windows Vista will make the group more competitive, while improved remote access features will benefit employees’ work/life balance.
