Creative Agency Delivers Engaging, Rich-Media, Movie-Trailer Web Site in Three Weeks

“Flash developers were able to pick up Silverlight and Expression Blend very quickly, using their existing rich-media skills to deliver an engaging, interactive trailer site with high-quality video in only three weeks.”
—Jason Dempsey, Vice President of Client Technology, Moxie Interactive

Business Needs

In late 2007, movie studio Fox International approached Moxie Interactive to build an interactive movie-trailer site for its new movie Jumper. Moxie had one month to design and deliver a unique, engaging, high-definition user experience that reinforced the theme of the movie, in which a man finds that he can instantly “teleport” to any location.

Solution

With assistance from Dunn Training and Consulting, a Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner, Moxie Interactive used the Microsoft Silverlight™ browser plug-in to deliver an engaging, media-rich trailer site for Jumper in 14 languages. The company completed all design and interactive work using Microsoft Expression® Media and Expression Blend™ design software, and all JavaScript coding for the site using the Microsoft Visual Studio® 2008 development system. The effort took three weeks and involved one architect, one designer, and three Flash developers.

Benefits

Moxie Interactive realized the following benefits from its use of Microsoft technologies:

  • Delivery of an interactive rich-media solution. Moxie used the advanced capabilities of Silverlight to deliver an engaging, interactive trailer site that incorporates high-quality video as users “jump” between locations in the film, just as its lead character does.

  • Fast, easy development. Flash developers were able to easily learn Silverlight and Expression Blend, applying existing rich-media and JavaScript development skills to ramp up quickly and meet the project’s aggressive timeline.

Moxie Interactive has since delivered two more Web sites based on Silverlight version 1 for the Fox movies What Happens in Vegas and X-Files, and is now in the process of adopting Silverlight 2, which is a compatible subset of the full Microsoft .NET Framework. “With Silverlight 2, we’ll be able to use our .NET-based developers for rich media as well, more than doubling our resources for rich-media development while benefiting from a single, integrated set of tools,” says David Reeves, Senior Architect at Moxie Interactive.
