Bank Saves Time and Improves Service Levels Using Common Management Tool

“We’ve gained improved efficiencies with System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2. We saved 30 to 40 hours a month in management time.”
— Marcus Albrecht, Associate Director of IT Systems Management, HSBC Trinkaus

Business Needs

HSBC Trinkaus maintains 300 Windows®-based servers and 300 UNIX- and Linux-based servers running mission-critical applications, such as databases and trading systems. The bank used a mixture of monitoring solutions to ensure constant uptime, which created a complex infrastructure. HSBC Trinkaus also wanted more detailed application-level monitoring.

Solution

In 2007, HSBC Trinkaus adopted Microsoft® System Center Operations Manager 2007 as its monitoring tool for Windows-based servers. When Microsoft announced System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 with cross-platform monitoring capabilities, the bank joined the Microsoft Rapid Deployment Program. By the end of 2009, System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 will provide detailed reporting for all 600 of the firm’s Windows-based and UNIX/Linux-based servers.

HSBC Trinkaus will have one place to view performance indicators for all systems and a way to monitor applications that span multiple platforms. The IT staff can even let
business teams monitor their own applications.

Benefits

With System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2, HSBC Trinkaus is realizing the following benefits:
