IT Provider Boosts User Productivity, Saves Money with Improved Operating System
ErgoGroup is a leading IT services provider in the Nordic region, with 3,700 employees working in 90 locations. The firm deployed the Windows Vista® operating system to 2,000 of its 3,600 client computers and was eager to build on that foundation to achieve even greater user productivity and IT efficiencies. ErgoGroup deployed the Windows® 7 operating system to 250 computers and plans to deploy it companywide by early 2010. The outstanding stability of Windows 7 promises improved user productivity across the company. Its new management features will decrease desktop management time and eliminate licensing costs for third-party encryption software. Because of the operating system’s minimal hardware requirements, ErgoGroup will be able to deploy Windows 7 on existing computers without upgrades. ErgoGroup also envisions new customer opportunities stemming from Windows 7.

ErgoGroup is a leading Nordic IT provider, with 90 locations across Norway, Sweden, and Finland. To design effective infrastructure solutions for customers, ErgoGroup uses the same Microsoft® software it recommends. The firm deployed the Windows Vista® operating system to 2,000 of its 3,600 client computers and was eager to build on that foundation to achieve even greater user productivity and IT efficiencies.
Solution
ErgoGroup deployed the Windows® 7 operating system to 250 computers, and plans to deploy it companywide by early 2010. ErgoGroup is also developing best-practices guidelines for customers. “Windows 7 has been very stable, even in beta form,” says Arne Bergersen, Program Manager for ErgoGroup. “It’s easy to use and very fast.”
ErgoGroup uses Windows 7 in conjunction with the Windows Server® 2008 R2 operating system to manage more client computer parameters with Group Policy, including power settings and configuration. ErgoGroup will also be able to eliminate a third-party encryption solution by using the enhanced BitLocker™ feature in Windows 7, which helps protect data on portable storage devices.
Benefits
- Increased user productivity. “The outstanding stability of Windows 7 is the chief benefit for us,” Bergersen says. “This will improve user productivity across the company. The user experience will also improve from easier logon due to Group Policy management efficiencies.”
- Time, software, and hardware savings. Because of the minimal hardware requirements for Windows 7, ErgoGroup will be able to deploy the operating system to its Windows XP and Windows Vista-based systems without hardware upgrades. Also, ErgoGroup will need less time to manage its desktop environment and can eliminate licensing fees for the encryption product.
- New customer opportunities. “Customers are very interested in Windows 7, and we foresee many deployment projects,” Bergersen says. “The opportunities extend to infrastructure projects involving branch efficiency, security, and virtualization.”
