Healthcare Provider Streamlines Patient-Care Processes
"With Microsoft solutions, our personnel have increased their productive time and our patients flow through our processes more efficiently, getting the care they deserve."
Mary Turner, Customer Service Director, Park Nicollet
Business Needs
As with many of the country’s top medical facilities, Park Nicollet Health Services is focused on operational efficiency and patient care safety. But as patients at Park Nicollet progressed from one stage of their care process to the next, the organization had no easy way to communicate patients’ status to the contact person in the subsequent area. To improve patient care, safety, and process efficiency, clinical employees needed to be more aware about patient progress, prevent backups, and quickly communicate delays along the process chain.
Solution
Park Nicollet has taken advantage of the communication features included in Microsoft® products and services to improve visibility into the patient-care process. Microsoft Office 2003 provides the desktop environment for the collaboration tools, and Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003 combined with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 makes presence indicators, real-time scheduling, and contact information available across the network. In addition, clinic personnel use the instant messaging functionality of Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 to track and communicate patient progress.
Benefits
The patient experience has improved. Due to a broad effort to improve efficiency, Park Nicollet now performs a higher percent of procedures on time and has improved its overall procedural process.
Park Nicollet is also planning to expand its real-time communications presence by deploying Microsoft Office Live Meeting, a solution it expects will increase the time doctors can spend on tasks that add immediate value to the organization. © 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
