Facilium Oil and Gas IT Specialist Chooses Cloud-Based Productivity Tools to Improve Service

Business Needs
Facilium consultants work at remote locations. “Reliable access to information on our varied laptops and mobile phones was a challenge,” says Dan Norberg, CEO and Co-Owner of Facilium. “Some information was stored in our project management solution, and the rest was stored in consultants’ laptops, which was a security concern. We didn’t have instant messaging to help colleagues share expertise.”

To simplify IT management and improve information access and communications, Facilium wanted to replace its email, project management, and voice over IP (VoIP) services with a single cloud-based solution.

Solution
In August 2012, Facilium found that solution in Microsoft Office 365, an online service that unites familiar Microsoft Office applications with the power of email, calendaring, collaboration, and communication solutions.

Microsoft Partner Network member Cloudstep worked with Facilium to migrate everyone’s mailboxes to Microsoft Exchange Online. Consultants use Microsoft Lync Online for instant messaging and presence and for web conferencing across customers’ firewalls. Norberg is exploring Microsoft SharePoint Online for team sites and collaboration.

Benefits
Using Office 365, Facilium mobile consultants are working as a cohesive, productive global team, sharing expertise and expediting projects for customers. “Facilium consultants rely on Microsoft Office 365 cloud-based communication and collaboration services all day, every day, all over the world,” says Norberg. “It’s global productivity without worry.”

Facilium expects to reduce the stress of managing disparate solutions. “With only 20 employees serving 90 percent of the Life of Field Seismic [LoFS] technology market, Facilium doesn’t have time to manage IT,” says Norberg. “With Microsoft Office 365, we gain familiar, reliable email and collaboration solutions that we don’t have to think about. They just work.”
