The Canadian Sport Institute Ontario is a member of a network of seven Sport centres across the country designed to enhance the daily training environment of Canada's high performance athletes and coaches. The centres were created by a unique national partnership
between Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Coaching Association of Canada (CAC).
The Ontario institute originally relied on service providers to deliver rehabilitative focused services, like massage, physiotherapy and chiropractic. But as it grew, providing more in-house Sport Science services and partnered with more National Sport Organizations
(NSOs) and Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs), it became apparent that the departments and data were becoming increasingly siloed.

The mission of the CSIO is the pursuit of excellence by providing world-class programs, services, and leadership to high performance athletes and coaches to enhance their ability to achieve international podium performances. They needed a better way of managing
the information in order to fulfill it.
What was needed was a scalable, flexible and cost effective data management solution which was easy to use and access, and also integrated into the existing IT infrastructure of the CSIO.
“We had been using Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 with a SharePoint portal for coaches but felt that there was a greater, and much wider potential for it. When we started to look around at a solution we could use to help us achieve this, we reviewed what was out
in the market but came back to Microsoft Dynamics, but to the latest version, 2011.” says Witty.

From the outset the team at CSIO had a clear vision of what they wanted from their new solution including:
1. the flexibility to configure and personalise it as new requirements arose
2. one central repository for all athlete and coach information
3. the ability to quickly and easily extract the information
4. a cost effective solution and deployment options that met their budget
Partnering with Microsoft Canada’s 2012 Dynamics CRM Partner of the Year, Altus Dynamics, they were able to automate the vast majority of the tasks associated with maintaining and working with athletes and coaches. New entities were added that allow the solution
to capture all of the athlete test results and to capture and help plan coaching courses and results. CSIO also wanted to include in the database, historical game results for athletes to monitor performance over time which Altus Dynamics was able to accomplish
by using the data import functionality within Microsoft Dynamics CRM. They now they have one central system with all of the required data for all athletes over the last 10 years.

This new solution is also now fully integrated with Microsoft Outlook with a future potential to integrate it with their current accounting system, adding further benefits.
