According to Justin Bates, IT manager of Geosynthetics, uptime and availability are crucial. “Our customers often call to place an order on Friday and require delivery on Monday morning,” he says. “If our employees do not have access to our system, we’re dead in the water. Using the Libraries feature to catalogue the network drives holding customer information, quotes, and technical specifications in conjunction with the new Instant Search Box has dramatically reduced the time spent trawling for information. According to Bates, this feature alone saves each salesperson about 40 minutes a day.
According to Bates, Windows productivity features have made a significant impact on work efficiency across the company’s business. Everyday tasks such as searching, finding, resizing, and arranging documents for data comparison used to take a long time, but now these processes take just seconds.
“It used to take 2-3 minutes to set up documents on-screen for side-by-side comparison, and at least 2-3 minutes to search for files on the network drives. Each of us performs these tasks more than ten times a day,” reports Bates. ”With Aero Enhancements and the new Instant Search Box, it takes seconds, and this saves us more than 320 hours annually.”
Increasing Access to Information
Battery life is critical to working effectively in a mobile environment, and Windows Power Management enables Geosynthetics to get more life out its laptop batteries. Power-saving enhancements include decreasing idle time for the processor and more efficient power use. Adaptive Display Brightness dims the display if the computer has not been used for a while, saving valuable hours of battery life. Says Bates, “We are now consistently getting 7.5 hours plus of battery life on our mobile PCs with Windows 7.”
