State of Colorado Reduces Costs and Improves Services to Citizens Through Cloud Computing
The state of Colorado has 1,100 IT professionals, 21,000 computer users, and an IT budget of $250 million. A key goal of the IT organization is to reduce costs while delivering more services to citizens. In this context, “cloud computing”—the hosting and management of applications and services on the Internet through data centers—can help the state’s IT staffers focus more on the strategy of delivering services and less on the boxes and wires that make up IT infrastructure. The state has 39 data centers that require deployment of personnel to each facility for update management, energy management, and physical access. Moving forward, Microsoft Online Services will help the state streamline IT operations and free the IT staff to focus on providing services to citizens.
