Turkcell, a leading mobile communications provider, is deploying the Windows® 7 operating system to 5,000 computers. Once deployed, Turkcell expects to lower support by 20 percent and to improve user productivity by 830 hours weekly. Turkcell also anticipates improved network security.

Day-Timer, the world-renowned maker of personal productivity tools, wanted to increase its own productivity by reducing costs—including the U.S.$725,000 annual cost of the mainframe on which it ran its business. The company migrated its ERP software to Windows Server® and the Microsoft® .NET Framework, using tools from Alchemy Solutions. The result cut costs by 94 percent. As a bonus, batch processing is 10 percent faster and developers are 25 percent more responsive to business needs.

Warid Telecom International, a mobile telecommunications company, wanted to maximize uptime and energy efficiency in its call centers in Pakistan. To improve operations, it is deploying a virtual desktop infrastructure based on Windows Server® 2008 R2 and Hyper-V™. Warid Telecom increased uptime to 99.9 percent, cut support time by 40 percent, and expects to reduce power consumption by 80 percent and capital costs by 20 percent.

Pella uses the latest technologies to craft beautiful, energy-efficient windows and doors. To support this work, the company’s IT Operations and Infrastructure team became an early adopter of the Windows® 7 operating system. After the pilot program is complete, Pella expects to benefit from the improved IT management, faster deployment, enhanced security, greater efficiency, and increased energy savings that the company is already seeing in the pilot phase.

Builders look to architects to design buildings that help reduce carbon footprints—and many architects look to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for guidance. The AIA has taken a leadership role in green technology in several ways: by eliminating the production and distribution of paper for board meetings, by reducing travel and using virtual meetings, and through the planned availability of virtual tours of the association’s renovation of its headquarters to reduce its carbon footprint. A common technology behind all these moves is Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007. As a result of its efforts, the AIA has cut costs associated with paper use by 30 percent, decreased travel by 15 percent, and planned highly visual virtual tours. In addition, board members now have better and faster access to information, helping the board make more effective decisions.

Pronet Soft, a software consulting firm, makes it a practice to take immediate advantage of technology advancements. The firm undertook a pilot deployment of the Windows® 7 operating system and experienced a fast, straightforward implementation with no compatibility issues. Pronet Soft has found that Windows 7 offers an enhanced user experience and easier system management than previous versions because of the wealth of new tools it includes.

City commissioners in Bergen, Norway, used to bring as many as 500 pages of paper documents to each of their biweekly meetings. Although case managers created the documents electronically, commission secretaries made at least 20 copies of each case for meeting attendees. In response to a challenge to reduce the city’s impact on the environment, the City of Bergen moved to paperless meetings using a document management and storage solution built on Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 and Microsoft Office OneNote® 2007. Bergen developed this new solution, called 360° Politician’s Workplace, in partnership with Microsoft and Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Software Innovation. With its digital workplace solution, the city expects to save more than 3 million sheets of paper, eliminate 43 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, and save NOK 2,400,000 (U.S.$366,233) per year.

In April 2009, the company began upgrading to the Windows® 7 operating system in order to gain first-hand knowledge and prepare for customer deployments. As a result of the upgrade, the company is benefiting from enhanced IT security, reduced power consumption, and simplified IT management.

Atea is an IT services provider based in Oslo, Norway, with seven subsidiaries throughout Europe. To better help customers update and implement software, Atea wanted to upgrade its 950 computers to the Windows® 7 operating system at its Norwegian branch.
