Movie Streaming Business Uses Cloud Service to Save Millions of Dollars, Scale Quickly
4-page Case Study posted: 04/02/2014

blinkbox is a UK movie and TV streaming service that is enjoying terrific growth. However, the company’s London datacenter loomed as a barrier to future growth. To quickly and cost-effectively gain access to the prodigious amounts of compute power and storage needed to perform video encoding, blinkbox moved to the cloud—specifically, Microsoft Azure. By moving its entire video workflow to Microsoft Azure and unplugging its datacenter, blinkbox will save millions of dollars, gain the ability to scale IT infrastructure on demand, and deliver a great customer experience on multiple consumer devices. The company is taking advantage of Microsoft Azure to expand its business and deliver more content to more customers, with outstanding reliability and quality.

County Government Saves $700,000 Annually, Achieves Lean IT with Private Cloud
4-page Case Study posted: 03/21/2014

King County wanted to achieve lean government operations and provide better service for its 1.9 million constituents. The King County IT department (KCIT) consolidated 28 data closets into one state-of-the-art datacenter and chose Windows Server with Hyper-V virtualization technology and Microsoft System Center datacenter solutions to build a virtualized environment and a private cloud to provide cost-effective infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) capabilities to departments. KCIT now provisions a virtual machine in two hours, compared to three months for a physical server, and it costs 40 percent less. King County reduced planned downtime by 90 percent, infrastructure costs by US$700,000 annually, and storage costs by 30 percent. And by delivering responsive IT services, KCIT enables efficient government processes that translate into better value for taxpayers’ dollars.

IT Provider Uses Hypervisor Solution to Build B2C Virtual Computer Service in the Cloud
4-page Case Study posted: 03/18/2014

LG CNS is building a Virtualized PC services called CloudPC (cloudpc.lgcns.com) that gives consumers their own Windows-based virtual computer that they can access anytime, anywhere through any device—including Windows-based and Mac computers, smartphones, and tablets. The service needs to meet the company’s high standards for performance, stability, and cost-effectiveness. LG CNS first extensively tested and then chose to build much of its CloudPC service on Windows Server 2012 R2 and its Hyper-V technology, and Microsoft System Center 2012 R2. The solution supports a multiple-hypervisor environment, complementing third-party virtualization technologies. This Windows Server infrastructure offers faster virtual machine booting times, more virtual machines per physical server, smaller storage pools using standardized equipment, and lower storage costs through Windows Server deduplication.

University Uses Private Cloud to Trim IT Costs While Improving Reliability and Innovation
4-page Case Study posted: 02/20/2014

After years of enduring a lackluster economy and multiple budget cuts, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) found itself with outdated, unreliable technology. The school partnered with DynTek Services, a member of the Microsoft Partner Network, to come up with a cost-effective way to move forward. FAMU used its existing Microsoft license to virtualize most of its datacenter using the Hyper-V technology in Windows Server 2008 R2 and to create a private cloud. It moved student email into the cloud using Microsoft Office 365 for education and deployed Microsoft System Center 2012 to manage the entire infrastructure. For a small investment, FAMU transformed its technology infrastructure, reestablished technology reliability, and saved a significant amount of money. The IT staff can now deliver new services that enhance teaching and learning and help attract top students.
