STRABAG Property and Facility Services Company Ltd. is the successor to the real estate management division at Slovak Telecom. Once the previous contract for IT infrastructure maintenance expired, the company had to provision its own infrastructure, with minimum set-up and management costs, while migrating company mailboxes successfully and ensuring full IT service availability. BSP Solutions, a Microsoft Gold Certified partner, was chosen to oversee the deployment of the company’s current solution, based on Microsoft Office 365 and other online services.

Business Needs

The requirements from STRABAG’s management were clear: development of and migration to the current solution had to be executed without and discontinuity in company operations. Also, the operational costs needed to be reduced, particularly for IT system administration. Employees, who are often in the field due to the nature of their work, were requesting mobile access to company resources such as email and calendars, which was not possible with the company’s previous infrastructure. Besides hampering personal productivity, lack of mobile access was also influencing communication efforts between employees. Yet by enabling remote access to company resources and data, the company also needed to address various security issues before deploying the new system.


STRABAG migrated user accounts and mailboxes to Microsoft Office 365 Enterprise E3 without experiencing downtime and maintaining full business operations. Email accounts were migrated to Microsoft Exchange Plan 1, enabling employees to access email, calendars, tasks, and contacts across devices, from desktop PCs to tablets and mobile phones.

The implementation process included introduction of Active Directory Federation Services, which was used to connect the newly established Active Directory infrastructure with the Office 365 environment, in order to facilitate employee access to the system from mobile devices and in remote locations, with proper privileges and access rights. Consequently, heightened security is maintained throughout the company, in compliance with internal and external regulations.
