Royal Adelaide Hospital Royal Adelaide Hospital increases operational visibility to improve patient management and care.

Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) was experiencing issues with their patient management system which was inaccurate and affecting the quality of care being delivered, particularly in the winter-time. After considering their options, a new system called CapPlan was introduced. Based on the Microsoft® .NET and SQL server platforms, CapPlan is a healthcare-specific demand and capacity management solution which allows the hospital to see at a glance occupancy of beds and number of staff. This in turn means they can forecast correct staffing levels to meet demand, reduce “gridlock” in busy periods and have greater operational visibility. The hospital has already seen return on the investment in CapPlan in year 1, and it has been such a success that Adelaide Health Services plans on rolling it out to four other hospitals in the area.
