Servco Pacific Executes a Fast Notes to SharePoint Migration with Quest Software

Privately held Servco Pacific Inc. is a top-15 Hawaii corporation that employs more than 1,100 employees. It provides Hawaii’s businesses and consumers with products ranging from automobiles to insurance. Servco distributes and sells the Toyota, Lexus, Suzuki and Scion vehicle brands, as well as markets Chevrolet vehicles. In addition, the company distributes name-brand appliances, electronics and educational products. It also provides several types of insurance as well as invests in real estate and other holdings in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Rim.

The Challenge

For its Lotus Notes migration project, Servco sought migration tools to address its multiple requirements. While Servco’s IT team was quickly moving forward with the project’s largest task -- transitioning from Notes e-mail to Microsoft Exchange -- it recognized that it would require additional methods to handle some unique and important migration needs. Lacking the time to develop special interfaces or to manually move from Notes to Microsoft SharePoint, Servco needed a tool that could migrate various calendars and document libraries from one environment to the other.

The Quest Solution

Quest Software was selected as a potential solution provider with its Notes Migrator for SharePoint product. Notes Migrator for SharePoint provides point-and-click migration of Lotus Notes documents to SharePoint lists. This simple but powerful tool enables you to transfer content by selecting data from a Lotus Notes or Domino database, defining any desired data mapping rules and writing the data to SharePoint. Because Notes Migrator for SharePoint supports the migration of standard Notes applications, such as document libraries, calendar and discussion, as well as allows for custom data mapping, it appeared to have the functionality the Servco IT team sought. After Servco’s consultant successfully tested it, Notes Migrator for SharePoint was quickly requisitioned for the project. The complexity of some of the calendars made Notes Migrator for SharePoint particularly useful.

In addition to the shared calendars, there were a handful of very important document libraries that had to be migrated. With Notes Migrator for SharePoint, Servco migrated all of the Lotus Notes calendars and databases over to SharePoint in two days.

With Notes Migrator for SharePoint, Servco was able to migrate important business information for senior management as well as shared calendars for employees. This saved significant time for the busy IT team because it did not require custom interface programming or manual transfer of data.

The IT team was able to learn what it needed to know about Notes Migrator for SharePoint and conduct proof of concept tests within four days. It then performed the actual migrations in two days, a much shorter time period than if they would have done the migration manually.

Servco also believes Notes Migrator for SharePoint provided a strong return on investment in terms of the business value of the time-sensitive data that was migrated.
