St Catherine’s School Styluses and shared notebooks power individualised learning at leading independent school.

In 2012, IT staff at St Catherine’s independent girls’ school trialled the Samsung Series 7 Slate PC, which uses the Windows 7 operating system. With touch-screen and digital-stylus capabilities, the slate PC enables students to hand write notes and equations directly into Microsoft OneNote 2010 files. And by deploying Microsoft Lync on slate PCs, teachers can monitor each other’s availability, and start instant messaging, voice and video calls with one click.

With these capabilities, students and teachers are pioneering innovative learning techniques to drive 21st century learning. They record audio tracks to OneNote homework projects that help personalise feedback, create novel audio-video recordings of science experiments to aid revision, and record class discussions to assist remote learning. As a result, learning is more enjoyable and students are more creative.
