Correct Solutions is excited about a new foundation for small and midsize business (SMB) growth: Windows Server 2012 Essentials, which it sells in combination with Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 to give SMB customers
the best of on-premises and online worlds. Customers get a flexible, cost-effective solution that grows with their business, and Correct Solutions gains a way to manage the whole solution spectrum from one console—and expand its services value and revenues.
Established in 1997, Correct Solutions is an IT consultancy that serves small businesses in the Sydney, Australia, area. It prides itself on understanding each customer’s business problems and finding technology that truly fits. Because of its focus
on finding the right technology for each customer, Correct Solutions is always looking for new technologies to add to its portfolio. Those technologies have to be reliable, easy to use, and flexible. “Most small and midsize businesses replace their technology
every five to seven years, so they want it to grow with them,” says Wayne Small, Correct Solutions Cofounder and Technology Specialist.
Because small businesses are also experimenting with cloud computing and hosted solutions—running applications in a third-party data center—Correct Solutions invested in building a data center to provide email, virtual servers, and other hosted services.
To maximize the return on this significant investment, Correct Solutions is always looking for compelling new cloud offerings.
In response to these needs, Correct Solutions was an early adopter of the Windows Server 2012 Essentials operating system, which provides remote access, file and print sharing, data backup and restoration, and other core server capabilities in one integrated
package. Correct Solutions liked the easy integration of Windows Server 2012 Essentials with Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and with Microsoft Office 365, a set of cloud services that includes email, document sharing, instant messaging, and videoconferencing.
By using Windows Server 2012 Essentials, Correct Solutions can give small businesses a cost-effective, on-premises server to provide basic server capabilities and, if it suits their business, recommend Office 365 for cloud-based services such as email.

Cofounder and Technology Specialist, Correct Solutions
“Many of our customers find the combination of Windows Server 2012 Essentials and Office 365 extremely compelling,” Small says. “One customer had a server that was seven years old and could not be convinced to upgrade. But when we presented the combination
of Windows Server 2012 Essentials and Office 365, the customer jumped at it. The customer didn’t really understand what the cloud was but certainly understood the benefits when we showed how the whole solution worked.”
Correct Solutions replaced this customer’s big, noisy server with a tiny, quiet HP ProLiant MicroServer running Windows Server 2012 Essentials. The customer uses this server for file and print sharing and to store financial data on-premises. Employees and
remote consultants use Office 365 to access files and communicate when out of the office—using smartphones and other mobile devices.
For customers that need more than one server, or that need to run email and other applications on-premises, Correct Solutions deploys Windows Server 2012 Essentials in combination with Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter, which provide virtualization
licensing. Correct Solutions deploys a single physical server—usually an HP ProLiant 300 Series Gen8—and creates multiple virtual servers in the single physical server to run Exchange Server 2010 and other business applications.
Correct Solutions likes the single-console management simplicity of Windows Server 2012 Essentials. The company can set up and remotely manage a customer’s servers, PCs, and Office 365 subscriptions through the Windows Server 2012 Essentials dashboard. From
this dashboard they can also migrate customers from older versions of Windows Small Business Server to Windows Server 2012 Essentials, usually in a matter of hours.
Windows Server 2012 Essentials automatically backs up customer PCs, and Correct Solutions fortifies this data protection by using Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security to provide malware protection. “Trend Micro software just works,” Small says. “Also,
Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security is integrated with the Windows Server 2012 Essentials dashboard, which gives us one place to see all the security aspects of the customer’s network.”
By outfitting small and midsize business customers with Windows Server 2012 Essentials, Office 365, HP ProLiant servers, and Trend Micro security software, Correct Solutions gives them flexible, expandable, cost-effective technology that grows with their
business. The solution provider has also increased the efficiency of its own staff by using Windows Server 2012 Essentials management tools and opened up new growth opportunities.
Give Customers More Flexibility and Reliability at Lower Costs
With Windows Server 2012 Essentials, Correct Solutions has a more flexible portfolio with which to meet a range of customer needs. “Customers get the best of both worlds: an on-premises server to keep critical data on-site, and productivity applications
in the cloud where they can be easily accessed and paid for as an operational rather than capital cost,” says Small. “Windows Server 2012 Essentials gives customers the essentials they need to run their business and lets them add new capabilities with cloud-based
software such as Office 365 as their business grows,” Small says.
Improve Partner Efficiency and Productivity
By using the Windows Server 2012 Essentials management dashboard, Correct Solutions can support more customers. “With Windows Small Business Server, our staff needed to know how to support Microsoft Exchange Server and Windows SharePoint Services, which
were included with that product,” Small says. “With Windows Server 2012 Essentials and cloud services, we’re supporting a simpler product, so training and customer support are far easier, which lets us do more with our staff.”
Expand Business with Richer Solutions
Correct Solutions sees revenue-producing new business opportunities around Windows Server 2012 Essentials: upgrading the huge base of customers still running Windows Small Business Server, and selling Windows Server 2012 Essentials in combination with
Office 365 and the solution provider’s own hosted services.
“Windows Server 2012 Essentials is a great foundation for our customers to build their businesses on, and it’s also a great foundation on which Correct Solutions can expand,” Small says. “We have structured our business to take advantage of the local-server-plus-cloud
paradigm and invested a lot of money in building a hosting environment. We see huge opportunity in pursuing this twin approach to solving customer problems.”
