By unifying all Microsoft's R&D efforts in China, we have built a strong organization that supports all facets of R&D. Microsoft China R&D Group comprises Microsoft Research Asia, Microsoft Advanced Technology Center, and many product R&D organizations in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. By working closely with headquarters, the groups develop key technologies in Microsoft's business areas. We also have a Strategic Partnership arm dedicated to fostering closer collaborations with the local IT ecosystem. | | Curiosity-driven research As Microsoft's research arm in the Asia Pacific region, Microsoft Research Asia conducts fundamental, curiosity-driven research with the goal of realizing Microsoft's vision of future computing. By harnessing the best talent from across Asia and the world, Microsoft Research Asia has grown from its nascent beginnings in 1998 into a world-class research lab that is constantly pushing the ‘state-of-the-art’ forward. Technologies from Microsoft Research Asia have had an influence not only within Microsoft but also on a broader community. More than 200 innovations from the lab have been transferred to Microsoft products, including Office XP, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, Xbox, Windows Live and the company's latest releases - Windows Vista and Office 2007.

To fuel their research and development efforts, the Microsoft Advanced Technology Center has built a unique process that combines new methods of innovation, the delivery of global product development and creative training methodologies. The center currently focuses on the areas of web technology, mobile technology, digital entertainment and emerging markets. Scores of technologies have been transferred into Microsoft products such as Windows Vista, Office, XBox, Tablet PC, and Windows Live.

Microsoft Asia Search Technology Center (STC Asia)’s mission is to deliver the best internet search experience to users in China, Japan, and Korea and deliver innovations for Microsoft’s global search platform. To fulfill this mission, STC Asia is dedicated to building the most powerful regional R&D center in Beijing, construct well-designed product plans and develop close local partnerships. STC Asia collaborates with MSR Asia, Microsoft Advertising Platform Division, Consumer and Online International and other groups to transform the Online Services Division into an effective global development organization.
STC Asia works on projects including internet search services, multimedia search, mobile search, map search, and Microsoft’s global search platform. The center provides a range of opportunities and challenges for every technical engineer and business manager.

| Hardware that makes a difference Microsoft continues to lead the industry with revolutionary advancements in hardware. In China, Microsoft Asia Center for Hardware (MACH) manages the end-to-end creation of hardware for the world market, developing more than one third of all hardware. MACH develops products that optimize performance and design including mice, keyboards, webcams, text input devices for Xbox, and accessories for Xbox360 and Zune. The Center is equipped with specialized hardware labs for PC hardware, Xbox products, audio and video technologies, EMC/safety testing, and manufacturing test equipment development. MACH also supports manufacturing engineering, supplier/partner management, component qualification and procurement, and new technology/product incubation.
