Interviewing with Us

Getting to Know your Skills and Talents

Will you find the right mix of satisfying work, great projects, and exciting challenges at Microsoft? Do you have the drive and determination to help us succeed? That's what our interview process is designed to find out.

“The thing that surprised me most about Microsoft is the responsibility I was given. Every so often I would take a step back and think: I can’t believe that I get to do this.”

- Prasid, Student Lifestyle Marketing Manager, U.S. Public Sector

Getting an Interview
The best way to start the process is by submitting your resume on-line. You can learn more about our open positions by clicking on either the Full Time or Internship opportunities.

Also be sure and try to attend Microsoft recruiting events held either on your campus or at a regional venue. At these events you can:

Meet your recruiter. Recruiters often like to ask a few questions to find out more about you and what you’re looking for in a career.
Get answers to your questions about Microsoft and what it’s like to work here.

To find out when the next recruiting event will be held on your campus please visit the Make a Connection section.

The Initial Interview
Once your recruiter has had a chance to review your resume against our open positions or had the chance to chat with you to get a better feel for your career interests, they may wish to schedule an initial in-person interview or an interview over the phone. These interviews are very casual and are intended only to give us a general idea of your skills.

Some things to keep in mind:

Be prepared to discuss your strengths, expertise, and any experience or previous jobs that appear on your resume.
If you're interested in one of our core technology positions-Software Design Engineer, Software Design Engineer in Test, or Program Manager-you may be asked some general problem-solving, design, or algorithm questions.
If your passions run to other disciplines such as sales, finance, or user assistance, be prepared to answer general questions in your field.
Ask your own questions. After all, this isn't just about Microsoft learning about you, but you learning about us, too.

What's Next?
Let's say you really knock our socks off in your first interview, and there's a spot that seems just perfect for you. In that case, we'll ask you back for a second round of interviews at one of our campuses.
