A Real World Experience Like No Other
As an intern at Microsoft, you’ll have real responsibility, real work, and real opportunities to jumpstart your career. (You’ll get paid, too!) It’s an experience you’ll never find in a classroom. You’ll be given manageable assignments that you can complete while you’re here, and your efforts will likely take shape in Microsoft products—or be used by Microsoft teams—long after you return to school. You could help create a Web application, a marketing plan, a prototype, a user guide—the possibilities are endless. And just imagine millions of customers, not to mention your classmates, seeing your work! Some interns even parlay their experience into a job offer.

What can I expect to do at Microsoft during my internship?
Microsoft interns share the same job responsibilities as full-time employees in the product groups. You'll be given real work with actual problems to solve. As an intern, you'll be charged with enabling our product teams to deliver world-class software on schedule.
If I'm not a computer science major, can I still intern?
We don't require that you be a computer science major in order to be an intern, and have a number of non-technical internships. We're interested in individuals who have demonstrated a deep passion for technology and have a desire to solve problems.
Will I work in a number of groups during my internship, or focus on a specific goal in one group?
You will commit to a specific group during your internship. It's the best way to make sure you have the opportunity to make a real contribution. However, there will be plenty of opportunities to attend discussions about different Microsoft technologies and to interact with other employees on campus.
How long do internships last?
We ask that interns stay for 12 weeks, which we feel is long enough to dive into a project and make a significant contribution.
Are there locations outside of Redmond, Washington, where I could do an internship?
Redmond and Silicon Valley are the primary locations where we offer internships, but we do offer internships elsewhere, such as in North Carolina, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Texas, and Illinois.
Do I have to be a U.S. citizen to apply for an internship in the United States?
We'll interview all qualified candidates regardless of citizenship or visa status. There may be some exceptions for some specific positions.
