  Question
  Hi all,

I've never had any issues with MSN before but today I signed off and went to
sign back on and it just keeps trying to sign on. Litterally it sat there
for 2 hours no error message or anything, just saying signing in all the
time. So I finally decided to try my old account which signed in in 3
seconds no problem. I also tried my account sign in through web messenger
and no issue but then trying again on live it just does not want to sign into
this account. Is there anything I can do?

  Greetings,

Do you have another PC you have access to with WLM on it that you can try logging into that
account on?

I have the same problem. I can sign into a different computer with my name.
So I uninstalled and reinstalled and have the same problem still. I tried
disabling my firewall and still no luck. It started after Windows Updates.
So I tried removing the updates, but still no luck.

  Greetings,

Try the following -- shut down Messenger entirely by right-clicking on its icon in the
notification area and choosing Exit, then download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/remove_msgrsettings.reg

Then try signing in again.

Worked like a charm Jonathan. Thanks very much.

Any idea what was causing this problem?

Same problems here. The weird thing is that the account affected can't
connect from any PC on our LAN (we haven't tried from outside it yet).
Meanwhile, other accounts can log in from all PCs on our LAN. Can't figure
out how settings on one PC could affect all of them (talking about Jonathans
fix)

Just as a follow up. We ran Jonathans registry entry remover and it fixed the
problem for all PCs (i.e. not just the one we ran it on).

I really can't figure out how a PC that is turned off can stop you logging
on with a different PC - weird. Must be some cached information at Microsoft
somewhere.

I anyone finds an explanation for this behaviour, I would love to know.

I'd be very much interested in knowing once you figure it out. so that i may
take any steps required to stop it from happening again. Being forced to log
in from meebo sucks. :)

  Hi,

Obviously something was corrupted setting-wise with a specific group of people's accounts
either due to one of the updates, or something else. Hard to say how many were even
affected.

Had the same issue today - I haven't disconnected since Saturday and today I
took off, and could not log on with this computer all day. I could log on
from other computers, but could not use any account on this computer.

Jonathan's reg file fixed it, but removed the settings. Any idea what might
have happened?

The same thing happened to me. I was logged on and all of a sudden Live
Messenger decided to sign me out and I wasn't able to sign back in. So I
found this group and low and behold I found Jonathans remedy. I was hesitant
at first but decided to try it. And it worked. Funny how everyone had this
problem on Friday the Thirteenth. Spooky.
