In other words there's very little you can customize.

Just what I thought before I read your comment or the article, Frank. :-(
It's a shame that the once superb toolbar since IE4 got buried in concrete
with IE7.

So IE 7.0 is supposed to reduce toolbar creep but actually refuses to let you
hide the address bar and creates a "search" window. I usually plop my useful
toolbar overlapping the address bar. I don't usually use some of the icons
that now are forced upon me. I'm not impressed. I was so hoping your
article would tell me how to unlock the topmost fixed and nearly useless
toolbar.

IE 7 tool bars are a step backwards, they use more screen space and the
address bar can't be removed. This site is of no help either.

That was very interesting and I guess I was abit harsh about hating windows,
especially IE7 but never the less the information provided still did not let
me know how to go to favourites\add to favourites\make web page avaliable
offline.
can you give me a link for that page please?
As in my previous post I have XP Home SP2.
I have AVG and
Windows defender
computer is updated everyday.

I'm trying to find out how to open NOT a blank page but the HOME page. Since
the 'home page' menu item seems to be gone, the only method seems to be to
close ALL tabs and reopen IE7 (I'm using B3). Come on - there's got to be a
way around this obvious missing item (what is a blank page useful for?).

You don't have an icon of a house on the left end of the command bar? Or it
doesn't have a down arrow?
How about Tools Internet Options? No Home Page section?
How about the settings in Tools | Internet Options Settings in the Tabs
section?

Answer - Go to “Internet Options”, on the General Tab (1st tab) go to the Tab
settings. At the end of the first section check “Open home page for new tabs
instead of a blank page”

has anyone noticed that if you say, open your mail from WinLiveMessenger it
always opens in a new window, even tho your tab settings say to open it in a
new tab in current window,, you would think it should work since you set it
to open in a new tab and it should be compatible to do so since both are MS
products.. but no, will this be fixed at some point?

So right click anywhere on IE7 toolbar and the 'Classic' option appears!?!?!
- No. I would like the freedom to be able to move some of the 'toolbar areas'
around to suit me.
