Aurobindo Pharma Pharmaceutical Company Accelerates Desktop Repair with a New Toolset

The IT employees of Aurobindo Pharma faced challenges in managing issues related to the applications and desktops that the company supported across its 10 sites. The company had no standard way to resolve desktop system failures, which resulted in increased downtimes, decreased productivity, and even data loss. Laborious deployments and extremely time-consuming upgrades required restarts, causing downtime for users. Aurobindo Pharma is among the largest pharmaceutical companies in India, with a robust product portfolio spread over major product areas. Working with a small, highly committed group of professionals, P.V. Ramaprasad Reddy and K. Nityananda Reddy founded the company in 1986. It commenced operations in 1988 with a single unit that manufactured several types of semi-synthetic penicillin at Pondicherry, India.

Aurobindo Pharma became a public venture in 1992, and today the company has a global presence with its own infrastructure, subsidiaries, strategic alliances, and joint ventures. The company is the market leader in semi-synthetic penicillin drugs, with a presence in other key therapeutic segments such as cephalosporins, antivirals, CNS, cardio-vascular, and gastroenterology.

Over the years, Aurobindo Pharma has evolved into a knowledge-driven company. It is research and development–focused, has a multiproduct portfolio with multicountry manufacturing facilities, and is establishing marketing initiatives across the world.

Aurobindo Pharma has operations spread across 10 sites, but the company had no standard way to resolve system failures on employees’ personal computers, which run the Windows® XP operating system. Most of the time, when a computer failed, IT staff would format the unusable system and rebuild the operating system. It often took more than three hours to install the operating system along with the necessary applications. In some instances, locally stored data would be lost when IT tried to format a failed computer. 

Time-consuming deployments and upgrades of applications also often required restarts, causing additional downtime for users. The situation also consumed significant IT staff time, which resulted in slower responses to other issues in the organization and sometimes demanded a headcount increase.

Aurobindo Pharma realized that it needed a more efficient and reliable way to resolve desktop failures. The company wanted to reduce costs by developing a plan and a system to accelerate workstation recovery and enhance employee productivity.

Aurobindo Pharma employees now have a set of tools that they can use to start the system and repair startup failures, connect to network and backup data, and view event logs. With the ERD Commander feature, users can start unresponsive systems in a repair environment similar to the familiar Windows interface. IT staff can determine the most likely cause of a crash with the Crash Analyzer, and use System Restore to safely remove changes that could be causing the system to malfunction.

Gained Rapid Recovery for Increased User Productivity

IT administrators now have many options for recovery, even when Windows Safe Mode or normal startup will not function. With the easy-to-use, offline startup environment, the IT team can quickly restart computers, recover deleted files, and remove malware from infected systems while the computer is offline. This helps protect other computers on the network and reduces the amount of time the computer is unavailable.
