Absalon International Driving Revenue with the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace

Absalon International is an independent software vendor (ISV) based in Sweden. The company has 15 employees and provides add-on solutions for Microsoft Dynamics CRM that target the needs of the life sciences, consumer goods, and professional services industries. After Absalon engaged in an early-adoption program for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, Microsoft presented the company with the opportunity to be one of the first partners to offer its solutions on the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace. Absalon was quick to abide and, within only six months, the company has seen the website generate 20 to 40 new leads per month, of which one or two turn into new business, accounting for 5 to 10 percent of the company’s overall revenue.

Founded in 2008, Absalon International is an independent software vendor based in Sweden. The company is a Microsoft partner and focuses on developing and delivering industry-specific add-ons for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. As a part of an early-adoption program for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, Microsoft presented Absalon with the opportunity to become one of the first partners to offer its solutions on the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace, an online lead generation tool that helps partners showcase and sell their best Microsoft Dynamics add-ons and professional work to more customers.

“We see the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace as a great opportunity to further establish our brand presence and a natural next step for how partners will be making their solutions available in the future,” says Sebastian Merlöv, CEO of Absalon International. “By getting involved early, we were able to get ahead of the curve. The Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace also provided us with a way to target new customer segments that we didn’t have the resources to target before, including global companies and small businesses.”

Online Strategy
To make its life sciences, consumer goods, and professional services add-ons available on the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace, Absalon first underwent a brief process to obtain Certified for Microsoft Dynamics status for its solutions. Once it certified its add-ons, the company worked to optimize its presence in the new channel to help drive visibility, hits, and conversion rates.

“Two major factors contribute to the visibility of our solutions on the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace,” says Merlöv. “First, because our solutions are Certified for Microsoft Dynamics, they receive a priority search ranking among other, competing solutions. And second, because our solutions are industry-specific, they are easy for those with specific needs to discover.”

Merlöv notes that Absalon also employed other general search engine optimization (SEO) and web tactics to optimize its marketplace listings. For example, the company localized all web content for key languages, including its native Swedish, as well as English, French, German, Russian, and Spanish.

In addition, because leads through the marketplace would not come through a more traditional, person-to-person sales channel, Absalon was quick to ensure that potential customers had all the information they needed. This included providing access to training materials, quick-start implementation guides, and online training and workshops for its solutions in their Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace listings. By using buttons, as provided through the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace, Absalon was also able to link to other resources such as demos.

Looking toward the future, Merlöv notes that, “We’re now working to make our marketplace presence more personable so that it’s comparable to a traditional sales approach. To do so, we are working to provide customers with additional resources about our solutions and to make the whole experience more self-service so that prospective customers can immediately find all the information they need to inform their buying decisions.”

Benefits
With its solutions listed on the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace since spring 2011, Absalon is seeing significant results. Already, the marketplace is helping Absalon target customers in the small-business segment and in new countries, and has even led to new revenue.

“The Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace has helped our company target small-business customers and geographies that we simply lacked resources to target before,” says Merlöv. “And it has enabled us to do so quite cost-effectively.”

“For the leads, revenue, and credibility it gives to our brand, the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace has certainly been worth the investment of our time. And we only see it, and the business we get from it, getting better with time,” Merlöv concludes.
