Founded in 1995 in the Czech Republic, Profitech Food s.r.o. is a major supplier of machinery and tools for companies in the meat industry. It also provides full-service maintenance for the solutions it sells. The company originally started out as a small equipment service provider that specialized in the repair of small food machines. Over the next 25 years, the company’s scope expanded to include service of all types of industry-related equipment. Today, Profitech’s focus lies in the sale of new machines. It supplies state-of-the-art equipment from some of the most renowned brands in the market. The company stands behind each of its products with reliable warranties, professional maintenance, and premier customer service. Profitech has earned a reputation as an exclusive importer of best-in-class machines to the Czech Republic.
With a large volume of business and only 10 computers to support it, Profitech needed to make the most of its existing technology infrastructure without investing in expensive new hardware. This made them the perfect candidate for the Windows® 7 Professional operating system.

Economist, Profitech Food s.r.o.
The company’s biggest system challenge was the sluggishness of its PCs and applications. Vaclav Cermak, the company’s Economist, sought a solution that would reduce the length of boot-ups and shutdowns and minimize the PC-triggered work interruptions that were impacting employees’ productivity.
Employees were spending inordinate amount of time tracking customer records, emails, and other files in their sizable database. Cermak wanted to provide his staff with a more efficient and reliable means of searching through large repositories of information without affecting processing speed. He also hoped to provide remote users with more powerful mobility features, including improvements to their insufficient power management.
Finally, Profitech was in need of a better way to convey system issues to technical personnel and effectively reduce the amount of time spent on diagnosing problems. With just a few tech-savvy users on the staff, conveying and replicating issues was a big challenge.
Windows 7 is designed to offer current users a smooth transition from previous versions of the Windows operating system, and provide an abundance of new features with a minimal learning curve. According to Steve Ballmer, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft® Corporation, “Windows 7 is Windows Vista® with cleanup in the user interface and improvements in performance. We didn't have to go in an incompatible direction to make big strides forward.”
Fast and Stable
For Profitech, speed was the first indicator of the platform’s improvements. “Right away we noticed that Windows 7 is much faster and more economical,” notes Cermak. “It runs better while using fewer resources. Now that’s good design.”
Stability has also improved with the new platform, putting an end to the company’s earlier performance issues. “Our new system is very stable and reliable,” Cermak says. “We no longer see any interruptions of our work.”
Quick Data Retrieval
With Windows 7 Federated Search, Cermak and his team are able to locate files almost 40% faster, without having to remember exact document titles or sift through dozens of possible results. With the more intuitive search functionality, users only need to enter a brief description and the system will return the closest match. In addition to searching all files and folders on the PC, Federated Search also indexes and searches all emails and remote repositories, essentially turning Windows 7 into a robust, efficient search engine.
The new Jump Lists feature in Windows 7 further streamlines document and data retrieval. The Taskbar has been optimized to include Start menus for every application, not just for the PC as a whole. With a single click from the desktop, users can instantly view and access a list of the most popular and recently visited files in Microsoft Word, Excel®, Windows Media® Player, or any other application.
“Finding the information we need is so much easier now,” Cermak says. “We’re not spending valuable time hunting around for files anymore.”
Dramatic Power Improvements
Previously, members of Profitech’s remote team could only work for limited periods of time before being driven to plug into a power source. With the new platform, Cermak and his colleagues are happy to find extended battery life. They can now work for more than five hours on a single charge, allowing them to get more done while on the road.
Small businesses like Profitech often rely on non-technical personnel or third-party support to assist with system issues. With the Windows 7 Problem Steps Recorder, troubleshooting and resolving problems has become significantly easier. The tool gives users the capability to record each of their keystrokes and screen shots to create a clear, visual illustration of the issue they’re facing, allowing technicians to instantly pinpoint the cause of the problem.
Faster and more reliable: Windows 7 will help your organization use information technology to gain a competitive advantage in today’s new world of work. Your people will be able to be more productive anyway. You will be able to support your mobile work force with better access to shared data and collaboration tools. And your IT staff will have better tools and technologies to enhance corporate IT security, data protection, and more efficient deployment and management.
