“Windows Vista security features are unsurpassed.”
—Chouaib Oultache, Project Director, Algerian National Police
Algeria is the second largest country in Africa. Its police force is the Algerian National Police or Direction Générale de la Sûreté Nationale. To run its computers, the police force was using the Windows XP® operating system. The organization wanted to achieve higher efficiency by better integrating the client operating system with the rest of its IT infrastructure. It also wanted to enhance network security.
The police force decided to deploy the Windows Vista® operating system to 11,000 computers at stations across the country. In conjunction with the deployment, the organization is using the Microsoft® Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) for Software Assurance to streamline management tasks and enhance network security.
The police force has built its IT infrastructure on Microsoft technologies and is looking forward to Windows Vista integration with products such as the Windows Server® 2008 operating system, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Microsoft SQL Server® 2005 database software, Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006 (now part of the Microsoft Forefront™ edge security and access solution).
By upgrading to the newest operating system, the Algerian National Police is simplifying its IT infrastructure and enhancing security. “Windows Vista security features are unsurpassed. It helps us unify and secure our entire infrastructure,” says Chouaib Oultache, Project Director at the Algerian National Police. “Windows Vista is more than just an individual product; it’s a critical part of a more complete solution. It integrates naturally with our other IT systems, providing both the IT professional and the end user with the best experience.”
User productivity is also boosted. “Windows Vista’s powerful search functionality helps give people faster access to information,” says Oultache. Other benefits that the organization expects include:
- Reduced maintenance costs through consolidation to a common client operating system
- Higher IT efficiency, due to enhanced administrative tools
