World of Windows
Defining new standards.
The Windows personal computer has attained the cultural significance of the telephone, car, and airplane. When we–the Windows designers–think about the impact our decisions have on millions of people around the world, we're in awe. Such global reach brings opportunity and even greater responsibility. We must design a product that works on a global scale while enhancing the experience of each person. Moreover, our customers look to us to organize third-party drivers, deliver upgrades, and publish user experience guidelines for Windows application developers. In short, we work with the entire Windows ecosystem–our thousands of partners, computer manufacturers, and independent hardware and software vendors–to create world-wide solutions that last. How do we design Windows? We realize that many people aren't aware that they're using Windows. It's a foundation for any number of things a person wants to do and often runs in the background. That's why a part of our mission is to create an even more cohesive, recognizable product that people are proud to own and use. Design is core to engineering Windows. Designers work directly with developers and programs managers. We operate like industrial designers, using Windows technologies to solve the real-world customer problems across systems, time, and through devices. We work on every step of creating the Windows experience–from the package that Windows comes in to the security of the system and how files are stored. We bring the human element into the engineering process, keeping the emotions people feel when using Windows at the forefront of development decisions. Every aspect of design is important from the tone of the language to the color and quality of the design, and we work in harmony across teams and disciplines. The result will be an excellent experience for our customers. Our customers are design savvy. They expect their computing devices to be as exciting and identifiable as a sports car or a fine piano. We know the emotional difference between typing on a keyboard and holding a "pen" when you draw on a Tablet PC, and we will continue to explore how people connect with Windows. With Windows, Microsoft introduces a range of new user experience design and development platform and tools capabilities that will help you deliver the next generation of superior user experiences for your customers.
