In the .toolbox Design Scenarios track, you will be using Expression Blend, a tool
that is part of Expression Studio, to create Silverlight applications. Follow these
two simple steps to get started:
While Silverlight generated content can be viewed on both Windows and Mac computers,
Expression Blend works only on Windows. If you have a Mac, you can use Bootcamp,
Parallels, or another virtual environment to run Windows and Expression Blend.

Silverlight Toolkit
The Silverlight Toolkit is a Microsoft project containing Silverlight controls,
components, and utilities for use in your Silverlight applications. It includes
full source code, samples, and tests.
Deep Zoom Composer
The Deep Zoom Composer is a tool that allows you to prepare your images for smooth
in-place zooming and panning using Silverlight.
WCF RIA Services
Microsoft WCF RIA Services simplify the traditional n-tier application pattern by
bringing together the ASP.NET and Silverlight platforms. The RIA Services provide
a pattern to write application logic that runs on the mid-tier and controls access
to data for queries, changes, and custom operations.
Windows Phone toolkit
The Windows Phone toolkit includes in part project templates to make your own
apps or games by using Silverlight and XNA Framework. Also included is Microsoft
Expression Blend for Windows Phone, which you can use to create applications without
ever writing a single line of code.
Windows Phone SDK Download
Download the free Windows Phone SDK to develop applications and games for Windows
Phone. The latest release includes all the necessary tools you to need to develop
applications and games for both Windows Phone devices and
includes productivity enhancements such as an app profiler and an improved emulator.
