Overview
System Center Updates Publisher is a stand-alone tool that enables independent software vendors or line-of-business application developers to import software update catalogs, create and modify software update definitions, export update definitions to catalogs, and publish software updates information to a configured update server. By using updates Publisher to define software updates and publish them to the update server, administrators can begin detecting and deploying published updates to client and server computers in their organization.
Feature Summary
Updates Publisher enables administrators to do the following:
- Import catalogs created by non-Microsoft organizations or created from within the administrator’s organization
- Create applicability and deployment metadata for software updates.
- Export software update catalogs so that they can be imported by Updates Publisher at another location.
- Manage software updates information
New in version 4.5
- Synchronization command line tool (SCUPSync.exe) which enables you to import and publish updates without using the Updates Publisher console interface.
- Ability to publish updates as “metadata only”, which publishes the software update definition without the associated update file.
- Ability to configure proxy server credentials in the Updates Publisher console

- Windows Server Update Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 Administration Console installed
- Either System Center Configuration Manager 2007 or System Center Essentials 2007 must be installed

Instructions
Download Application
- Click on SystemCenterUpdatesPublisher45.exe to download
- Select a location to unzip this self-extractor file
- Run setup.exe in the location you chose
System Center Updates Publisher 4.5 Supports Only Clean Installations
Upgrading to Updates Publisher 4.5 from previous versions is not supported. Software updates can be exported from your current version of Updates Publisher and imported to Updates Publisher 4.5 by using the following steps:
Note: The publish flag status will be reset on all updates.
- Open your current version of Updates Publisher.
- Right-click the System Center Updates Publisher node in the tree view and select Export.
- Choose Export selected updates to a cabinet file that can be imported by other publishers and complete the wizard.
- Uninstall your current version of Updates Publisher.
- Install Updates Publisher 4.5.
- Open Updates Publisher 4.5.
- Click the Import Update(s) action, and then choose Single Catalog Import.
- Specify the path to the exported catalog from step 3, and then complete the wizard.
