Overview

This update contains an improved version of the Exchcsp.dll, which provides encryption services to Microsoft Outlook® 2000. The dynamic-link library (DLL) in this update contains improvements specifically for use with Outlook 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) with 40-bit or 56-bit security encryption. If you are using 128-bit security encryption, see Updated 128-Bit Encryption Provider for Outlook 2000 SR-1.

To determine whether you are using 40-bit or 56-bit encryption, do the following:

  1. Start Outlook 2000.
  2. On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Outlook.
  3. Click Security Info.
  4. If you see CipherStrength40bits or Cipher Strength 56 bits under MicrosoftOutlook2000, you are using 40-bit or 56-bit encryption.
    If you see CipherStrength128bits under MicrosoftOutlook2000, you are using 128-bit encryption and should not use this update. See Updated 128-Bit Encryption Provider for Outlook 2000 SR-1 for the correct update.
  5. Click OK twice to return to Outlook 2000.
Note   This update requires that you have installed Outlook 2000 SR-1 and that you are using either 40-bit or 56-bit security encryption.
