Overview

The Internet Assistant Wizard Update for Microsoft® Excel provides two updated features and a fix to a possible problem with the Internet Assistant Wizard that was included with Microsoft Excel. It is extremely important that you understand the purpose of this updated file and that you install it if the following scenario could potentially apply to you. If you use the Save As HTML command to save files to a network drive mapped to a Windows NT Server, you must install this update. Unless this update is installed it is possible that all data residing in any Windows NT Server directory to which the HTML file is saved could be deleted.


Microsoft has not received any known reports of this having occurred in the United States, but we understand the severity of the problems that could result if this did occur. For more information about this, please see the Knowledge Base article Q167612-- XL97: Html.xla Add-in May Delete All Files in a Folder on this issue.


Also included with the updated add-in are two major enhancements:


  1. A worksheet range with AutoFilter applied can now be converted to HTML with all data and filters preserved, instead of just the current view of the worksheet.
  2. The Save As HTML process can now be automated using Visual Basic for Applications, so users won't be required to walk through each step of the wizard.



The files in this download are actually newer than both SR-1 and SR-2. If you do not install this newer file, the wizard will not work properly with FrontPage 98. See the Knowledge Base article Q178129 - XL97: "FrontPage Cannot Be Found on Your Machine" in Wizards for details.

To install this download

  1. You may want to print this page to use as a reference when you are offline.
  2. Download the file from this page by clicking the Download link above and following the instructions in the dialog boxes.
  3. Double-click the HTML.exe program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.


Instructions for use:

Start Microsoft Excel and click Add-Ins on the Tools menu. Make certain that the Internet Assistance Wizard is selected. If it is not listed, click Browse and located and select HTML.xla. The file is installed by default in >drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Library. In the Add-Ins dialog box, click OK.
