Overview
The Microsoft Outlook® and Microsoft Exchange clients each use a slightly different forms technology. When a user installs Microsoft Office97 or Microsoft Outlook, their system is configured to run Outlook. So, switching to use the Exchange client can cause slower performance. We recognize there are some users who will use both clients on the same system. To address these users' requirements as quickly as possible, the Outlook team shipped a utility with Office 97 which allows users to manually indicate which client they will be using so their system can be appropriately configured. This utility allows users to switch between clients without any performance loss.
This utility is intended for Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange client users who have need to switch between the two different clients. Users who upgrade permanently to Outlook (and will never need to switch back to the Exchange client) or who haven't yet upgraded to Office97 or Outlook97 will not need this utility. The utility is installed automatically upon download and is focused on substantially improving any e-mail client performance issues previously encountered by users who have installed Outlook, but continued to use the Exchange client for e-mail.

To install this download
- You may want to print this page to use as a reference when you are offline.
- Download the file from this page by clicking the Download link above and following the instructions in the dialog boxes.
- Double-click the switchfm.exe program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. Once it is completed, the SwitchForm Utility will be installed at >drive>:\Program Files\ORK97\Outlook\Switchfm .
Instructions for use:
To run the utility you can:
- Before you use Outlook SwitchForms, exit from Microsoft Exchange Client or Outlook.
- In the SwitchFm folder, double-click Regforms.exe.
- In the Install forms for box, select either Microsoft Exchange Client or Microsoft Outlook to indicate which application you are switching to.
- In the Search for form configuration files box, type the path for the form configuration files. You do not need to specify a full path. SwitchForms searches the folder you specify and all of its subfolders. By default, Microsoft Exchange Client form configuration files are installed in >drive>:\Windows\Forms\Configs. Outlook form configuration files are installed in >drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Forms.
OR, use the Run feature.
- On the Start menu, click Run and type regform.exe\exchange or regform.exe\outlook, depending on which application you are switching from.
