Overview

The updated Excel 97 for Windows® Auto-Recalculation Patch resolves the recalculation issues discovered in Microsoft® Excel 97 for Windows, including the issues related to shared formulas. If you have downloaded a version of the Excel 97 for Windows Auto-Recalculation Patch prior to April 22, 1998, you should still download this latest patch to ensure that your worksheets automatically recalculate correctly. If you are not sure whether or not you already have this latest patch, you can still safely download it. The download will automatically stop and inform you if it was previously installed on your computer. Similarly, if you have an earlier version of this patch, this download will only make the changes your Excel program requires to bring it up to date. Notes:

Before You Download This Patch:

To use the updated English version of the Excel 97 Auto-Recalculation Patch, you must be running Excel 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1). To verify which version of Excel you are running, click About Microsoft Excel on the Excel Help menu. You should see Microsoft Excel 97 SR-1 as your version of Excel. If the version you are running is not Microsoft Excel 97 SR-1, please go to the Get Microsoft Office Service Release 1 page for instructions on obtaining Excel 97 SR-1 (which is included in Office 97 SR-1).

Information for Users of International Versions of Excel 97:

The automatic recalculation issues affect all versions of Excel 97 for Windows, including international versions. The Excel 97 Auto-Recalculation Patch is already included in international versions of the Office 97 SR-1 Patch. If you have already installed an international version of the Office 97 SR-1 Patch, you don't need to install the Excel 97 Auto-Recalculation Patch. If you have not installed SR-1, you must install it first, before you apply the auto-recalculation patch. There are several international versions of the patch available.
