Overview

The Microsoft® .NET Micro Framework is a platform that enables developers to more quickly develop embedded systems that are smart, securely connected, and easier to manage. With the version 3.0 release, the .NET Micro Framework enables developers to create powerful embedded systems that are more securely connected through a variety of wired and wireless protocols.

The Micro Framework SDK lets you can combine the reliability and efficiency of managed code with the premier development tools of Microsoft Visual Studio® to deliver exceptional productivity for developing embedded applications on small devices.

The Microsoft .NET Micro Framework SDK supports development of code, including device I/O, in the C# language using a subset of the .NET libraries, and is fully integrated with the Microsoft Visual Studio® development environment.

This download is the full SDK, which lets you develop C# code for the .NET Micro Framework and run it on our extensible emulator. Then choose from several development kits to deploy your code to real hardware.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Integration
The .NET Micro Framework SDK integrates into Visual Studio 2008 and Visual C# Express Edition, supporting C# development with productivity-boosting features such as on-device debugging, object browsing, IntelliSense®, and integrated build and deployment.

Managed Libraries and Drivers
An on-device implementation of a subset of the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR) brings the advantages of .NET development to small devices. Write device drivers and interrupt routines in C# for hardware connected through standard interfaces, such as SPI, I²C, GPIO, and USART.

Extensible Emulator
Extend the core emulator included in the SDK to reflect your target hardware capabilities. Add simulated peripheral devices, such as sensors, displays, buttons, and servo controls. Then deploy to your customized emulator and test your code on the virtual hardware.

Enhanced Secure Connectivity
.NET Micro Framework version 3.0 enables new connectivity support, including Wi-Fi integration, USB support, Web Services for Devices, SSL, and support for a file system compatible with FAT32.
