Overview

The Securing Windows 2000 Server solution uses the principles of the Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF), the Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF), and the Security Risk Management Discipline (SRMD) to help readers identify and assess threats and vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows 2000 Server environments. The solution provides information to help organizations determine which risks have the greatest potential impact on their domain infrastructures, as well as guidance for the use of IPsec filters to lock down specific server roles. Dedicated chapters address the topics of patch management, auditing and intrusion detection, and incident response, and the appendices provide information about the purpose of all Windows 2000 services, registry access control changes, disabling NetBIOS, and configuring digital certificates on domain controllers. Instructions

  • Click the Download button at the top of the page to start the download.
  • Do one of the following:
    • To start the .zip file extraction immediately, click Open or Run this program from its current location. Then extract the files to your preferred location on your computer.
    • To save the download to your preferred location on your computer for .zip file extraction at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk.
  • To install the .msi package:

    1. Navigate to where you extracted the .zip file content on your hard drive.
    2. Double-click the Securing Windows 2000 Server Tools and Templates.msi file.
    3. Accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.
    4. Follow the steps in the installation dialog to complete the installation.
    5. Find the installed files in your My Documents folder or by looking in the Start/All Programs menu for a shortcut.
