Overview
A duplicate GUID refers to when SMS clients have the same GUID. In this situation, client information such as inventory and discovery data is reported to the same single record in the SMS site database. The GUID is used to uniquely identify computers for a variety of SMS processes, and duplicate GUIDs can cause those processes to fail. The problems caused by duplicate GUIDs can include corrupted inventory, mis-targeted advertisements, and reduced site server performance. Clients with duplicate GUIDs are not supported by SMS. For SMS to function as designed, duplicate GUIDs must be removed from both the clients and the database.
