Overview

The Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer tool analyzes your system and reports potentially incompatible hardware devices and software applications. The tool matches the devices and applications on your system against a list of known problems. This check also occurs during Windows 2000 Setup, but you can download and run the tool before you install Windows 2000 to help ensure your installation will be successful.

You can run the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer on the following operating systems:

  • Windows 95
  • Windows 98
  • Windows NT 3.51
  • Windows NT 4.0


To install the tool, click the download link at the top or bottom of this page. The file size is 2.6 MB. Approximate download times are:

  • 23 minutes on a 14.4k modem
  • 11 minutes on a 28.8k modem
  • 5 minutes on a 56k modem
  • 2 minutes on 128k ISDN

Instructions

To download, install, and use the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer:

  1. At the top or bottom of this Web page, click the link to Download the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer.
  2. Select Save this program to disk, and then click OK.
  3. Choose a location on your computer to save the file, and then click Save.
  4. Go to the location where you saved the file, and then click Chkupgrd.exe.


The Readiness Analyzer will display a list of your hardware and software that it detects may present Windows 2000 compatibility issues. You can save or print this report for your reference. You can save or print this report for your reference.

Please note that compatibility reports generated by the Readiness Analyzer tool may vary slightly from reports generated by the Windows 2000 setup program.

Windows 95/Windows 98 Users:
If you have anti-virus software installed, you will see a message directing you to uninstall the anti-virus software and quit Setup. Click No to proceed. Do not uninstall your software and quit setup.

The Readiness Analyzer will not operate on dual-boot machines running Windows 95 or Windows 98 in tandem with Windows NT.
