The Microsoft Office 97 Unique Identifier Patch addresses privacy concerns regarding the insertion of a unique identifier number in Office 97 documents. Once applied, the patch prevents Office 97 applications from inserting a unique identifier number into Office documents. This patch also applies to standalone versions of Word 97, Excel 97, or PowerPoint® 97.
Note If you haven't already done so, Microsoft recommends that you also download and install the Microsoft Office 97 Unique Identifier Removal Tool , which removes the unique identifier number from existing Office 97 documents. Instructions for use: Once the patch is installed and your computer has been restarted, any new documents you create in Word 97, Excel 97, PowerPoint 97, and Office Binder 97 will not contain the unique identifier number. Outlook® 97, Outlook 98, Access 97, FrontPage 97, and Publisher 97 do not insert the Globally Unique Identifier Number into documents they create. To remove this download: This patch cannot be uninstalled. If you want to use Office 97 without the patch, you must remove Office 97 and then reinstall it from your original Office 97 Setup disks.
