Overview

Project Server 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates to Microsoft Project Server 2002. SP1 contains significant security enhancements as well as stability and performance improvements. This service pack applies to any level of Project Server 2002. It contains all previously released updates to Project Server 2002.

When installing SP1, you may be prompted to insert your original Project Server 2002 CD-ROM. For more information on this requirement, please see (828451) OFFXP: Why Service Packs, Updates, and Security Patches May Require the Office XP CD-ROM.

Project Server 2002 SP1 includes all updates previously released for Project Server 2002:


Project Server 2002 SP1 will install successfully even if one or more of the publicly available updates has already been installed on your computer.

Project Server 2002 SP1 also includes stability improvements developed as a result of user input from the Error Reporting Tool in Project Server 2002 and from Microsoft Product Support feedback.

Important For complete Project Server 2002 SP1 functionality if you are using a Project Server 2002 Multilingual User Interface Pack, you will need to install both this download and Project Server 2002 Update: Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Multilingual User Interface Pack.

System Requirements

  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Advanced Server; Windows 2000 Server; Windows Server 2003

  • To install this update, you must have the following:

    • Project Server 2002

Instructions

  1. Upgrade the database

    2. It is advised that you back up your database before applying any updates.
    • Download the SQL patch, ProjectServer2002-KB830240-SQLFile-FullFile-ENU.exe.
    • Double-click on the file to extract the files to a temporary folder.
    • To run Upgdb101.cmd, Osql.exe is required on the machine from where the cmd file is run. If you are running Upgdb101.cmd directly on the machine where the database resides, this file should already be present. It is also available on the Project Server CD in the \support\database folder.
    • Run Upgdb101.cmd from a command line with the following parameters. To run from a command line, click Start > Run and type cmd in the dialog box and click OK.


      • UPGDB101.CMD <sql server name> <database name> <system administrator account login> <system administrator account password>

      OR if using Windows authentication SQL Server as the currently logged in user:

      UPGDB101.CMD <sql server name> <database name>

    Note: By leaving off the system administrator account login and password, the command file will assume Windows authentication to SQL Server. If you supply only the SQL Server name, it is assumed the database name is ProjectServer.

  2. Install the Project Server service pack

    • Download the ProjectServer2002-KB830240-FullFile-ENU.exe to the Project Server machine. Install the service pack by double-clicking on the file.
    • Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

  3. Update the STS custom template files

    4. If you are using SharePoint Team Services, you may want to apply the latest service pack (SP3) which is available through the Office XP Service Pack 3. After applying the service pack you will need to update your custom template files.
    • After installing SharePoint Team Services Service Pack 3 (SP3), you need to re-run STSWiz.exe which was part of the Project Server 2002 original installation. It can be found in the Support folder on the Project Server 2002 CD. This will reinstall the custom template files.
    • Download ProjectServer2002-KB830240-STSFile-FullFile-ENU.exe.
    • Double-click on the file to extract the files to a temporary folder.
    • From the temporary folder double-click on Setup.exe to update the template files. Any new subwebs will now have the updated templates files.
    • To update existing subwebs, run the upgwebs.cmd file from a command line. It is important to note that to upgrade all Project subwebs each subweb needs to be specified with the /w switch in the command line. To run from a command line, click Start > Run and type cmd in the dialog box. At the command prompt type in upgwebs.cmd and click OK. The following options are supported for the batch file:


        • /? – Displays usage.
        /s – To supply STS web site name e.g. /s STS
        /w – To supply existing subweb that need to be patched. This can be supplied multiple times for multiple subwebs

    Example: upgwebs.cmd /s "sts web site" /w ms_projectserver_publicdocuments /w 106 /w 109


Instructions for use:

Once you have installed this update, use Project Server as you normally would.

To remove this download:

There is no uninstall feature for this download.
