Overview

The following pre-release programs and updates will prevent Visual Studio 2008 SP1 from installing successfully, so they must be removed prior to installation:

To remove these programs, it is recommended that you run the automated Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack Preparation Tool. This tool will remove the specified updates and programs from your system and restore the integrity of any Visual Studio 2008 features that may have been compromized during manual removal of the Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta release.

  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista; Windows XP

  • Internet connection

  • Original Visual Studio 2008 media may be required during removal of SP1 Beta

Instructions


  1. Click the Download button on this page to download and save the Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 Preparation Tool (vs2008_patchremovaltool-x86.exe) to your system.

  2. Close all active applications on your system, including Visual Studio 2008 SP1 setup.

  3. Using an account that has administrator's privileges, run vs2008_patchremovaltool-x86.exe.

  4. If you are running a version of Vista, accept the UAC prompt.

  5. Follow the prompts for Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 Preparation Tool.

  6. Click the Finish button when the tool reports that the process is complete.


The tool's total execution time will depend on your system's performance and any installed products that are affected by the updates. Additional time will be required if you have the Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta installed.
