Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer v1.2.1 (for IT Professionals)

Brief Description

The Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer provides security update detection for legacy products that are either out of public support or are not supported by WSUS and Microsoft Update technologies.

Overview

In response to direct customer feedback for a standalone security update and vulnerability assessment tool to identify common security misconfigurations, Microsoft continues to provide the legacy Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) 1.2.1 tool. Version 1.2.1 of MBSA includes a graphical and command line interface that can perform local or remote scans of Windows systems.

MBSA runs on Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, and Windows XP systems and will scan for common security (VA) misconfigurations in the following products: Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0, SQL Server 7.0 and 2000, Internet Explorer (IE) 5.01 and later, and Office 2000, 2002 and 2003.

MBSA also scans for missing security updates for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, IIS, SQL Server 7 and 2000, Exchange 5.0, 5.5 and 2000, Internet Explorer 5.01 and 6.0, Windows Media Player 6.4, 7.0, 7.1, 8.0 and 9 Series, MDAC, MSXML, Microsoft VM, Office 2000, XP and 2003, Content Management Server, Commerce Server, Host Integration Server, and BizTalk Server.
