Overview

This critical update corrects the issue “Installation of intranet component and browsing to http://companyweb fail in Windows Small Business Server 2003” (KB 832880) Installations and upgrades performed after November 24, 2003 may be affected by this issue. After you install this critical update, you may have to restart your server.

The following error message may appear during Small Business Server 2003 Setup:

     An error occurred while installing Windows SharePoint Services and creating your Intranet site.

Additionally, the following error message appears when you browse to the internal Web site at http://companyweb/:

     You are not authorized to view this page. You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credential you supplied.

These problems do not occur if you installed Windows Small Business Server 2003 prior to November 24, 2003. However, they may occur if you make configuration changes to Windows SharePoint Services, such as reinstalling the intranet component, after November 24, 2003. Instructions

  1. Click the Download link on this page to start the download, or choose a different language from the drop-down list and click Go.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To start the installation immediately, click Open or Run this program from its current location.
    • To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk.
Notes
If you added users to your Windows Small Business Server 2003 network before installing this update, open the Users taskpad in Server Management, and then run the Change User Permissions Wizard to grant the appropriate users’ access to your company’s internal Web site (http://companyweb).

If you published your company’s internal Web site to the Internet before applying this update, you must run the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard again after applying the update to publish the Web site to the Internet.
