Overview

Sync Framework 2.0 Redistributables
This download provides the Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 redistributables that developers can include with applications that use synchronization. The Sync Framework components are provided in three separate redistributable packages so that installation can be tailored to application requirements. The three redistributables are:

  • Synchronization.msi: includes managed and native API for the synchronization runtime, core components, and Web synchronization components. This package is a pre-requisite for the other packages and must be installed first.

  • ProviderServices.msi: includes managed and native API for simple custom providers, the file synchronization provider, the metadata storage service, and also DLLs for the lightweight database that the storage service uses.

  • DatabaseProviders.msi: includes managed API for database synchronization providers.


Redistributing Sync Framework by packaging the SDK or by installing individual DLLs is not supported. The End User License Agreement (EULA) for the redistributable package covers the terms under which developers may use the redistributable. Bootstrapper Package
This download also provides Sync Framework 2.0 bootstrapper package samples that can be used with Visual Studio Setup & Deployment projects and ClickOnce applications to redistribute Sync Framework 2.0 components. To use the bootstrapper package, download it to the bootstrapper folder specified by Visual Studio. For Visual Studio 2008, the default location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages. After the bootstrapper package has been downloaded to this folder, the Sync Framework 2.0 redistributables appear in the Visual Studio Prerequisites dialog box, where they can be selected to be redistributed along with your application.

For example: to install the bootstrapper package for the English version of Synchronization.msi.

Step1: This corresponding bootstrapper package should be unzipped to one of the following folders.
  • 32-bit computer: %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages
  • 64-bit computer: %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages


Step2: Download the redistributable file (Synchronization.msi) and copy it to one of the following folders.
  • 32-bit computer: %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\SyncFX20Core\En
  • 64-bit computer: %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\SyncFX20Core\En

  • .NET Framework: Managed components require .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 or .NET Framework 3.x.

    • These bootstrapper packages are tested to work with Visual Studio 2008 Setup Projects.
    • These bootstrapper package includes xml files for English, Chinese Traditional, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian, Russian, Chinese Simplified, Spanish.
