Overview

The Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum enables Microsoft enterprise search systems to index the contents of an EMC Documentum repository. Once indexed, this connector also allows EMC Documentum search results to be displayed for users from within the Microsoft enterprise search system. These capabilities are based on the connector’s ability to natively access the appropriate file formats, data structures and security implementation of the EMC Documentum document management system.

System Requirements

  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Vista; Windows XP
  • This download works with the following Office programs:
    • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Microsoft Search Server 2008, or Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express installed and configured
  • The following is also required:
    • Documentum Foundation Classes (DFC) 5.3 SP4
    • Primary Interop Assembly 5.3 SP4
    • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
    • Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0

Instructions


You must run either one or both installers that are included in the self-extracting .exe file packaged with Microsoft Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum. Depending on how you need to deploy the Doc viewer, there are two possible options for installation:
  • Install only on an index server
  • Install on index servers and front-end servers

Installing on an index or stand-alone server:
If your system environment has an index server to run Microsoft Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum, run the IndexConn2008DCMT_Indexer.msi on the index server.

The IndexConn2008DCMT_Indexer.msi includes the following:
  • Index Connector DLLs
  • Microsoft Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum configuration tool
  • Create Content Source tool
  • oc viewer


To install Microsoft Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum on a front-end server:
  1. Download the self-extracting IndexConn2008DCMT.exe.
    • Note: The sef-extracting .exe file will yield installer files for both installation on an index server and on a front-end server. Be sure to use the correct .msi file for your particular installation.
  2. Run IndexConn2008DCMT_WFE.msi.
  3. Complete the installation wizard.
    • Note: We recommend that you accept the default choices in the installation wizard.
Deployment scenarios:
Before installing the Microsoft Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum, you must determine how search results will be routed to users. Search result routing effects how the Microsoft Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum will be installed in your system environment and the installation determines how search result routing will be configured.
Search result routing:
Because documents are housed in Documentum, found by the Microsoft Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum and displayed in SharePoint for the end user, search results must be routed to a specific SharePoint site. Search results can be routed through either:
  • Site collection host (portal site)
  • SharePoint Shared Services Administration site
    • Note: The site collection host refers to the web application URL that is hosting the main site collection.
After installation, remember how you are routing your search results for configuring the Result URL patterns.

Site collection host:
If you have a site collection host installed and configured on your system, you must decide how to further deploy the Microsoft Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum and packaged doc viewer.
  • Install both the doc viewer and Microsoft Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum on an index server
  • Separate installation of the Microsoft Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum on an index server and doc viewer on each front-end server

Stand-alone server:
If you have no front-end servers in which to install the doc viewer, but have a site collection host, you can install both the Microsoft Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum and doc viewer on the index server.

Index server and front-end servers:
If you choose to deploy the Microsoft Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum in a farm-based environment with front-end servers, install the Microsoft Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum on the index server and complete a separate installation for the doc viewer on the front-end servers.

To uninstall this download:

  1. On the Start menu click Control Panel.
  2. In Windows XP, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In Windows Vista, double-click Programs and Features.
  4. In the list of currently installed programs, select Microsoft Enterprise Search Indexing Connector 2008 for EMC Documentum and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
  5. Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.
