OverviewThe Microsoft Presence Sample for Web Applications includes samples of putting a presence icon on Web pages using two different techniques. The first is to use an ActiveX control that is installed as a part of 2007 Microsoft Office System or any of its programs. This control (Name.Ctrl) is the mechanism that SharePoint uses to put presence icons next to names on SharePoint pages.
The second method shows how to use a custom ActiveX control to put presence icons on Web pages. One control presents an interactive presence icon next to a control on a form that contains a name. The second control is a list control to display the presence status icon next to names in a list. Both controls provide tooltips, a context menu, and events for contact status changes. The source to the custom ActiveX controls can be downloaded from this site: Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 Presence Controls System Requirements
