SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) 2008 for Sybase PowerBuilder Applications is a tool that cuts the effort, cost, and risk of migrating PowerBuilder Applications designed for Sybase ASE to SQL Server 2008.

They can also assess migration of their business applications designed with PowerBuilder from Sybase ASE to SQL Server.

System Requirements

  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista; Windows XP
SSMA for Sybase PowerBuilder Applications is designed to work with PowerBuilder versions from 7.0 to 11.0 and all editions of SQL Server 2008 except SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

Requirements for the SSMA 2008 for Sybase PowerBuilder Applications:
• Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 or a later version
• The Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or a later version. The .NET Framework version 2.0 is available on the SQL Server 2008 product media. You can also obtain it from the .NET Framework Developer Center.
• PowerBuilder 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 10.5, or 11.0. PowerBuilder is required for loading PowerBuilder project only. Once the SSMA for Sybase PowerBuilder Applications project is created, it can be saved and loaded again on a host without PowerBuilder installed.
• 1 GB RAM (recommended).

Instructions

After you download the latest version, you must extract the installation files from before you can install SSMA 2008 for Sybase PowerBuilder Applications.

Installing the SSMA 2008 for Sybase PowerBuilder Applications

1. Extract all files from the compressed file.
2. If you are using WinZip, depending on the version that you have, you can either double-click the file, or right-click the file and select Extract All or Open in WinZip. Follow the instructions in the WinZip user interface to extract the files. If you are using another extraction utility, follow the directions for that utility.
3. Double-click SSMA 2008 for Sybase PowerBuilder.1.0.Install.exe.
4. On the Welcome page, click Next.
5. If you do not have the prerequisites installed, a message will appear that indicates that you must first install required components. Make sure that you have installed all prerequisites, and then run the installation program again.
6. Read the End User License Agreement. If you agree, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next.
7. Read the Usage Report Settings page, select or clear the feature reporting box, and then click Next.
8. On the Choose Setup Type page, click Typical.
9. Click Install.

The default installation location is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant 2008 for Sybase PowerBuilder Applications".

Additional Information

Licensing

SSMA is a FREE download, and is available for use by any customer or partner with no charge or any obligations. However, the product requires a license key for activation. The key can be obtained after quick and simple registration. Microsoft reserves the right to use an e-mail address or phone number provided during registration in order to contact a customer regarding his/her SSMA experience. To help you with the registration process, a License Key Required dialog box opens the first time that you start the SSMA program.
