OverviewThis is the second volume of the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report. This Security Intelligence Report focuses on the second half of the 2006 calendar year (from July to December) and builds upon the data published in the first volume of the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report that covers the first half of 2006. Using data derived from several hundred million Windows users, this report provides an in-depth perspective of trends in the malicious and potentially unwanted software landscape. InstructionsDownload the white paper and open using Adobe Acrobat If you experience problems when attempting to open this PDF, the workarounds below have been shown to resolve the issue: Workaround 1 Configure Adobe Reader to not open a PDF file in an Internet Explorer browser. This is done by un-checking 'open in browser' in the Internet tab of Adobe Reader preferences. 1. Open Adobe Reader 2. Go to Edit, Preferences 3. Go to Internet 4. Uncheck 'Display PDF in browser' 5. Click OK 6. Close Adobe Reader 7. Attempt to download the PDF file again. Now you should be prompted to open/save/cancel when trying to open or download the PDF file. Workaround 2 (for Windows XP) Configure Internet Explorer to prompt to save PDF files to disk. Then open the PDF file using your preferred PDF reader. Use Folder Options -> File Types to reset this. 1. Go to Control Panel 2. Click Folder Options 3. Go to File Types 4. Scroll to PDF in list 5. Click PDF 6. Click Advanced 7. If 'Save as' is not in the 'Actions box', click New 8. Type 'Save as' in Action box, click OK 9. Click OK 10. Click Apply 11. Click OK Workaround 3 (for Windows Vista) Configure the default PDF reader. 1. Verify default program for PDF files 2. Right-click on the PDF file that is already saved to your local disk 3. Choose, Open With... If Internet Explorer is listed as the 'Recommended Programs', do the following: 1. Mark checkbox, 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' 2. Click Browse 3. Find Adobe Reader 8.0 (default location - Adobe\reader 8.0\reader\acrord32.exe) 4. Highlight this .exe 5. Click Open 6. Click OK Check to see that Adobe Reader is now listed as the 'Recommended Program' for this type of file.
