Overview

This service pack addresses several stability and security issues with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Entourage for Office 2004, Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) Client 1.0.3 for Mac, and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications for Office 2004.

Applies to: Microsoft Office 2004 Standard Edition, Office 2004 Version Upgrade, Office 2004 Student and Teacher Edition, Office 2004 Professional Edition, Word 2004, Excel 2004, PowerPoint 2004, and Entourage 2004.

System Requirements

Supported Operating Systems: Apple Mac OS X

Before you can install Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1 (11.1.0), one or more of the following programs must be installed on your computer: Word 2004, Excel 2004, PowerPoint 2004, or Entourage 2004.

In addition, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:
Processor: Mac OS X-compatible processor that is a model G3 or higher.
Operating system: Mac OS X version 10.2.8 or later.
Memory: 256 MB of RAM.
Hard disk: 24 MB of available hard disk space.

Note The hard disk should be in Mac OS Extended (HFS+) format, the default format for Mac OS X. To determine the format of your hard disk or to see other information about your computer, on the Apple menu, click About This Mac, and then click More Info.

Instructions

Before you install Office 2004 Service Pack 1

Quit any other programs that are running, including virus-protection programs, because they might interfere with installation.
Make sure Aladdin Systems StuffIt Expander version 6 or later is installed on your computer. If an earlier version of StuffIt Expander is installed on your computer, you might not be able to install this software.

To install Office 2004 Service Pack 1

Print this page if you want to use it as a reference when you are offline.
Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements.
In the table below, click the file format you want.
Follow the instructions on the screen to save the file to your hard disk.
If you are using Internet Explorer, the Download Manager saves the file to the desktop unless you specified a different folder in the Preferences dialog box of Internet Explorer. (To check your preferences, on the Explorer menu, click Preferences, and then click Download Options in the left pane).
On your hard disk, double-click the file that you downloaded in step 4 to expand it.
Depending on the Web browser that you are currently using, this step might be performed for you automatically.
Double-click Office 2004 11.1 Update to start the setup program.
Follow the instructions on the screen to finish installation.
If the installation has completed successfully, you can delete the Office 2004 11.1 Update program from your hard disk.

Note This service pack is also available from Microsoft AutoUpdate, a program that can keep your Microsoft software up to date automatically. To download and install this service pack, open an Office program. On the Help menu, click Check for Updates. In the Microsoft AutoUpdate dialog box, click Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1.

To remove Office 2004 Service Pack 1
This service pack does not include an uninstall feature. To restore your Office 2004 programs to their original state, delete them from your hard disk, and then reinstall them from your Office 2004 CD-ROM.

Note: Two different file types are available for this download, MacBinary (.bin) or BinHex (.hqx). A .bin file is typically smaller than an .hqx file, but is less compatible with earlier Macintosh systems, such as Mac OS 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5. An .hqx file is typically larger, but is more compatible with earlier systems.
