The Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Capacity Planning Toolkit provides a set of tools and documentation to simplify capacity planning for Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1. The Capacity Planning Toolkit can be used as a complement to the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Planning Guide available on the Live Communications Server Deployment Resources site.

The Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Capacity Planning Toolkit helps simplify your hardware planning and provides you with increased knowledge and best practices for performance tuning, and improve your ability to verify the performance of your intended Live Communications Server 2005 deployments.

The Capacity Planning Toolkit is intended for use by IT professionals in a test environment prior to production deployment. These tools should never be used against a live production environment.

The tools in this Toolkit are designed to be used with Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 only. If you are looking for tools that work with Live Communications Server 2005 without SP1, please download the Live Communications Server 2005 Capacity Planning Toolkit.

System Requirements

  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003
  • Recommended hardware:
    • Dual Intel Xeon 3.06 GHz, 1-MB Cache, 533 MHz FSB (a dual processor with Hyper Threading is highly recommended)
    • 2-GB DDR, 266 MHz RAM
    • 2 x 18-GB hard disks
    • 100-megabit network adapter (less than 50,000 users) -or- 1Gbit network adapter (greater than 50,000 users)
  • This download works with the following Office program:
    • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1

Instructions

To install this download:
  1. Download the file by clicking the Download button (above) and saving the file to your hard disk.
  2. Double-click the LCStress.msi program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Note: Installing the Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Capacity Planning Toolkit on a computer with the Live Communications Server 2005 Capacity Planning Toolkit installed is not supported.

If you try to install this Capacity Planning Toolkit on a computer with a previous version of the Capacity Planning Toolkit installed, setup will prompt you to remove the previous version. You must then run setup again to install the Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Capacity Planning Toolkit.

After you install this download, refer to the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Capacity Planning Tools document for instructions.

To remove this download:

To remove the download file, delete the file LCStress.msi.

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of currently installed programs, select Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 Capacity Planning Tools and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
  4. Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.
