Overview
Spec Explorer is a visual tool for modeling software behavior and generating test suites from those models. Spec Explorer’s approach to model-based testing has been shown to greatly enhance productivity of test case creation, to ensure predictability of requirement coverage, and to support lifecycle management and software updates. Models are typically written in C# and controlled by a configuration language which allows to express scenarios and test purposes. Please see also the Spec Explorer home page on DevLabs.

There is one common version of Spec Explorer 2010 that can be run as and add-in to Visual Studio 2010 and 2008. Spec Explorer must, however, be installed separately for each environment. Side by Side operation of Spec Explorer on Visual Studio 2010 and 2008 is possible.
A successful installation in both environments will add “Spec Explorer” to the top level command menu of Visual Studio.
Please note: always uninstall Spec Explorer for a given version (2008 or 2010) of Visual Studio before replacing Spec Explorer by re-installing it for that version of Visual Studio. Also please close any open windows of Visual Studio before installing Spec Explorer.
